A Nobody's Inspiration

Where does inspiration come from? Anyone would usually tell you inspiration comes from places, things, events and even other people. Inspiration plays a big role to numerous writers, artists, designers and etc. Without this so called "inspiration" all the most admired works would cease to exist wouldn't they? Just as the common quote dictates, "Inspiration comes from the most unexpected places."

Well it definitely does, in the world of cosplay, you can take inspiration even from the most littlest things. For otakus, we usually find inspiration from anything that reminds us of a character, a place, an anime, a famous mangaka and so much more. When one remembers something or someone from a single item, it usually fuels up our desire to draw, write, photograph or cosplay.  Although in this article, I'll share to you something special about inspiration.

Can you remember your first event? The first character you ever cosplayed? But most of all, can you remember who motivated you to join the alien world of cosplay? I for one, can clearly remember who brought me into this interesting world. 



I'm sure you recognize this talented cosplayer. Yuegene Fay is a cosplayer from Thailand who is one of the internationally recognized cosplayers who has never failed to bring her fans in awe with her works. What makes her special on my part? She was the one who made me appreciate and became my inspiration in the world of cosplay. Yuegene caught my attention when I saw one of her most classic cosplays, her portrayal of the famous VOCALOID samurai, Gakupo Kamui. Ever since then I became fascinated by her and became more curious about the hobby she was indulging herself in. 
One of the questions that people usually ask you when you look up to someone is, "Why does that person inspire you?" Why do they inspire us? 

There can be countless answers to that question, but the main reason why Yuegene has always been my inspiration, her determination. Yuegene has explained in dominant of her interviews that she takes her hobby in cosplay seriously and does her best to get every detail accurate on her costumes. I find her strong-will and determination very admirable, especially to a hobby she enjoys doing. Being able to meet miss Fay in person was an experience I could never forget.  I thought she would be distant at first, but she proved me wrong when she showed me her humbleness, her friendliness and the very contagious smile she possesses. This talented cosplayer, has never once ceased to amaze me by her breathtaking photos and cosplay portrayals. What makes Yuegene so intriguing is that she makes it seem so easy and effortless, yet we all know hard work is present behind the scenes.


Until now, I deeply take appreciation to Yuegene's early cosplays. The selection of photos I featured above is her cosplays dated way back, and are the cosplays that made me interested about the world of cosplay. As old as these photos are, they still never stop to remind me who made me love the hobby, why I began to love it and how I came to appreciate it. It was all because of an admirable cosplayer from Thailand, Yuegene Fay.


When you ask any cosplayer out there, they would always tell you about that one particular cosplayer that they admire the most. But you know what makes all these admirable cosplayers so inspirational? The capacity of their work to bring inspiration and motivation to the extent that even people who are not into the hobby, become intrigued, fascinated and even motivated to try the hobby themselves. You can be amazed that even the most famous cosplayers are just like you and me. They're people who have ordinary lives but often times there is always that special life they keep hidden; but when they live in that second life, they extend ordinary to extraordinary. So, who's your inspiration?
